Through the Rotary Ideals Literacy Project, the Springfield Rotary Club has donated a set of books to every second- and third-grade student at Chester-Andover Elementary School and the Union Street School in Springfield.
One of the books, Andy & Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure, introduces children to the Rotary Four-Way Test, which encourages readers to consider:
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
The second book, Becky & Lin’s Apple Orchard Park, highlights Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” through a story about community members coming together to make a positive difference.
The Rotary Club of Springfield, founded in 1927, is an active community service organization with 30 members involved in a wide range of local and international service projects. To learn more, visit https://springfieldvtrotary.org/.
