ANNOUNCEMENTS 
 
 
• Raffle tickets and posters for the 2026 Penny Sale are available. Also, we are looking for folks to sponsor a stuffie for a prize. For more info, contact Jeff.
 
•We will be having a joint social meeting with the Charlestown Club in the evening on Thursday, October 1 at Fort #4 in Charlestown.  For more info, contact Jeff.
 
 
TREX PLASTIC CHALLENGE UPDATE
 
Bench #17 is being assembled and will be given to Springfield VFW. Bench #18 is earmarked for Elm Hill School. In the first week of September, 83 pounds of plastic film was collected. To date, 16,143 pounds of plastic film (over 8 tons or the equivalent of 12 dairy cows) have been removed from the waste stream since this project started in February of 2023, delivered to Shaw's Supermarket, and heading to Trex Company for recycling. Please continue to bring your plastic film to the Springfield Town Library.
 
NOTE: We need volunteers to help sort the plastic at the Library. For more info, contact Alan.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF

President Jeff welcomed all to the September 8, 2026 club meeting held at the Springfield Area Parent Child Training Center. For the thought of the day, he offered this quote attributed to Kofi Annan,"Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is a tool for daily life in modern society. It is a bulwark against poverty, and a building block of development, an essential complement to investments in roads, dams, clinics and factories."

RAFFLE

The weekly prize of $21 was won by Jeff who donated it to the Ukraine Project. The big raffle grows to $336 and only 1 card left.

PROGRAM:

 

 

Past District Governor John Bob Siemienowicz and Claremont-Sugar River Rotary Club past president Charlene Lovett, International Service Chairs for Rotary District 7870, spoke to the club about the new initiative, which will support a school for visually impaired children in Poltava, Ukraine.

The project seeks to raise $3,600 to purchase software and specialized equipment designed to improve treatment and assist with vision restoration for the children. The technology is expected to support efforts to restore and enhance vision, providing students with greater opportunities to learn and participate more fully in their daily lives.

Siemienowicz and Lovett explained that the project reflects Rotary’s commitment to international service and its ability to connect local clubs with projects addressing important needs around the world.

At the conclusion of the presentation, Springfield Rotary presented a $250 donation toward the project which was enough money to complete the project.
